A truck crashed into a building in Lower Hutt this morning, trapping the driver and forcing the closure of a major road.
A police spokesperson said they received reports of the single-vehicle crash at around 5.30am. One person was seriously injured.
A Fire and Emergency shift manager said theywere called to free the driver from the wreckage.
Rutherford St is closed between Melling Link and Connolly St and is expected to remain closed “for some time”, police said. Commuters have been asked to avoid the area.
“Heading into Lower Hutt, there is no left turn off the Melling Bridge,” the spokesperson said.
