TripAdvisor has listed three New Zealand cities in its Top 5 Destinations on the Rise in the South Pacific.
On December 10, the major travel website announced the winners of its Travellers Choice awards with Queenstown, Auckland, and Wellington securing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place respectively in Destinations on theRise in the South Pacific, behind Brisbane.
The website uses an algorithm that measures the year-by-year increase in positive TripAdvisor feedback and interest in accommodations, restaurants and attractions according to millions of travellers to determine the results of the awards.

"Holiday arrivals from Australia to New Zealand are continuing to grow up 10 per cent compared to this time last year," says Tourism New Zealand general manager Australia Tony Saunders.
"Natural landscapes and scenery is the top factor for influencing visitors to choose New Zealand along with Maori culture and local people."

Out of all travel destinations worldwide, Tulum, Mexico was named the world's top destination on the rise.
"Our well-travelled community has helped us identify the destinations around the world that are gaining in interest and popularity," says Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor.
"We hope these destinations inspire those planning their travel for 2016 to book trips to these locales that feature excellent hotels, restaurants and attractions, and also provide a great vacation value."
