Tribunal clears Parry

Graham Parry has been cleared of professional misconduct over surgery he performed on a woman at a Northland hospital in 1988. The complaints against Mr Parry from a Medical Council committee included attempting to repair a punctured bladder on the woman, whose name is suppressed, without previously seeking her consent or discussing the operation with her.

The Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal said that since the woman had signed a consent for operative measures considered necessary during a hysterectomy Mr Parry justifiably believed he was authorised to perform the bladder repair.
