Former Labour MP Trevor de Cleene died yesterday in Tauranga. He was 68.
Mr de Cleene, a lawyer, joined the Labour Party in 1951. He was the Labour MP for Palmerston North from 1981-1990.
He served as revenue and customs minister in the Lange Government and was also undersecretary to former finance minister Roger Douglas.
After resigning from the Labour party he became a founding member of the Act party.
Act leader Richard Prebble today paid tribute to Mr de Cleene.
"He will be remembered as a raconteur, a fine lawyer, a good MP and a gentleman," Mr Prebble said.
