A gingerbread house and an icing dress were the stars of the show for Masterton bakery 10CC as they took out second place overall at the Bakery of the Year Competition in Auckland on Sunday.
The bakery picked up gold distinction awards for their sandwiches, silver for the two storeygingerbread and icing house made by Krissy Waddington and Jenna Mangin and gold for the "icing dress" made by the same pair.
They also got silver for their seven-grain artisan bread made by Nathanael Cress, bronze for their bagels and danishes and silver for their gateau pithivier.
Baker's apprentice Marissa Laken picked up third place for her live baking show in which she had to whip up four items in three hours.
"It was nerve-racking but I'm very happy with the result," she said.
10CC owner John Kloeg said the competition was tight between first and second place.
"It was a very intense competition - there was only 20 points in it, but it was a tribute to the team who put in 20-30 extra hours to get it all done."
"It was great for team building and we are very pleased with the result."
