Trapped driver has moderate injuries after truck rolls in Dunedin

A truck driver who became trapped after their truck rolled in Dunedin has moderate injuries.

Police said the truck crashed at the intersection of George St and Great King St North, causing road blockages.

A St John spokesman said it was called to the crash at 7.48am and ambulance officers treated the driver at the scene.

The driver has been taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries.

The age and gender of the patient was not known.

Traffic was down to one lane heading south into the city from Pine Hill Rd. Motorists are asked to be patient while emergency services clear the crash.

The two-trailer reticulated truck has taken out a steel street lamp and a mature tree.

It was carrying plasterboard and has left a trail of debris scattered and broken on the road.

Smoke could be seen coming from the truck's brakes after it came to a stop.
