Train hits car in Reefton, Buller District

A train and a car have crashed in Buller this afternoon as wild weather rages.

The male driver of the car was trapped and had to be freed by firefighters, a Fire Service shift manager said.

Police said the man was flown to hospital with moderate injuries.

The crash happened near the Ikamatua Highway at the intersection of Grey and Quigleys Rds, Reefton.

The fire service were called to the scene about 12.23pm.

Traffic control is in place and police are still on the scene.
