Train delays in Auckland after cyclist hurt

Trains heading into the Auckland CBD on the western line have been delayed after an accident involving a cyclist and a train.

Police Inspector Ben Offner said police were called to the scene, at Rossgrove Terrace, near St Lukes Road, about 7.48am.

Mr Offner said a woman has suffered a broken ankle, cuts and bruising in the accident.

A St John Ambulance spokesman described the injuries as moderate but not serious, and she has been taken to Auckland Hospital.

Veolia Transport spokeswoman Michelle Roach said the track between Morningside and Avondale stations is now down to one track and passengers should expect delays of around 20 minutes.

Passengers waiting at stations along the line had earlier been told services were cancelled and buses would replace services due to the emergency callout at the Baldwin Avenue station.

The delays may mean thousands of commuters will be late to work this morning.

"Accident on the Western train line. We're in the train behind the one involved and stuck at Avondale," Nikki Elisabeth wrote on Twitter.

"Chaos on the western line. Emergency services call out at Baldwin Ave," Nigel Brookes wrote.
