A school in Levin has praised staff and emergency services for their quick response, after a tradesperson died on the grounds on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services responded to a callout to Levin East School on Bartholemew Road before 8am.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of this eventat 7.55am, responding with one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle.
Presiding member of school’s board of trustees, Hariata Wooller, confirmed to RNZ it was a contractor on school grounds who had died.
She said the school was grateful to its staff, and to emergency services, who responded quickly to the “unexpected situation”, and gave condolences to the family.
A local told RNZ a number of emergency vehicles began to arrive from 7.45am, and described a makeshift curtain of tarpaulins and rope being used to hide the scene.
