Track and field wins

Wairarapa athletes competed with some success at the central region track and field meet held at the Colin Pugh Sports Bowl in Masterton on Saturday.

On the track, Alison Andrews-Paul grabbed the limelight with a 56.64s win in the women's 400m and a 25.99s third in the 200m, but there were top five placings for both Alex Howden and Jonty Morrison over 100m and 200m and strong efforts over 200m and 400m by youngster Mikael Starzynski. Starzynski clocked a very respectable 52.53s when placing fifth in the latter.

Wairarapa provided all five competitors in the men's hammer throw event with Nathan Whiteman taking the spoils from Cameron Clatworthy and William Tait. Whiteman's winning effort measured 42.85m.

In the women's event Emma Kruzsona placed second with an impressive 48.74m and Grace Quinn fifth with 39.86m.

Whiteman also picked up a fourth placing in the discus, while, in the men's high jump, the talented Gerard Hickey was third with a leap of 1.85m.
