Tourists get stuck on Auckland jet boat

Passengers aboard an Auckland tourist attraction were grounded in the middle of the Waitemata Harbour today.

Auckland Jet Boat Tour's Scream Machine became stuck on a mud bar about 500m off Beach Haven about 1pm.

Passengers walked across the mud to another boat about 1.30pm.

A Beach Haven resident, who wished not to be named, said the boat was stuck near Charcoal Bay.

"It's quite amusing," he said. "No one was hurt, but unfortunately for the driver he went aground on an outgoing tide and got stuck on the big bar.

"They are stuck there in the mud.

"The tide is still outgoing, so it's going to be there for a while."

An Auckland Jet Boat Tours spokeswoman confirmed no one was hurt in the incident and that the passengers were on their way to Queens Wharf.

"The jet boat skipper is the only one on the boat."

Coastguard was unaware of the incident, said a spokeswoman.

Another Beach Haven resident Bill Ferguson said the boat was refloated in the tide about 2.05pm.

"It was going up the channel and it was stuck in the low tide, it's pretty shallow out there on the sand bank."
