Tongariro Crossing announcement expected

An announcement's expected today about the reopening of the Tongariro Crossing.

The popular hiking track has been closed since the eruption earlier this month.

Adrift Outdoors runs guided tours on Tongariro and director Stewart Barclay says they're looking forward to getting back onto the track.

"We're hoping that everything will be all clear for part of the track to open on the weekend and I understand there'll be some announcement on that."

Mr Barclay says there's been talk about reopening the track in sections as the risk decreases.
