Toddler suffers severe head injuries, 2 charged

Two people are facing criminal charges after a toddler was this morning admitted to Whakatane Hospital with severe head injuries.

The 2-1/2-year-old boy is in intensive care, Detective Sergeant Ross Everest said.

A 19-year-old local man appeared in Whakatane District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A 23-year-old woman, also from Whakatane, has been charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life. She is yet to appear in court.
