Toddler drowns in shallow garden pond

A 21-month-old girl was playing outside her Westport home before she died after falling into a farm pond yesterday, police said.

A family member who went to check on the toddler found her lying in a shallow garden pond, police said

Attempts to resuscitate the girl were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at Westport Hospital.

The pond was fenced and police were investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
