Timaru shed fire near hospital: Ten crews battle large blaze on High St, one seriously injured

One person has been airlifted to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries after a large shed fire in Timaru.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on High St, near Timaru Hospital, shortly before 9am.

Hato Hone St John said it sent an ambulance, rapid response unit, operations manager and helicopter.

Fire and Emergency said 10 crews, from Washdyke, Timaru, Temuka and St Andrews, were called to battle the 30m by 40m fire.

The fire has since been contained, with eight crews still on site to dampen hotspots.

Fire and Emergency said it will be at the site for the rest of today.

High St remains closed.
