Tiki Taane hosts workshop

Musician Tiki Taane will host a workshop for Wairarapa youth next month to share his story.

The workshop was organised to tie in with National Youth Week and New Zealand Music Month.

"The theme for 2013 is Live Like a Legend, which gave us a scope to work within when creating this youth focused event," according to The Spot youth centre co-ordinator Glenda Seville.

"The basis of this event is about the sharing of experiences through individual narrative.

"For this we have chosen a NZ music icon, Tiki Taane, to share his story.

"Tiki has not had the easiest journey to stardom but his trials, tribulations and adversities have moulded him to become the well known professional music artist and personal business production owner he is today," said Ms Seville.

"We hope to inspire young people to share their stories.

"To understand that although life may get you down at times, the strength to overcome these barriers lies within you.

"It's about opportunities.

"Making good decisions, creating fresh pathways personally and professionally."

The workshop will be held on May 12 from 11.30am at The Spot, Queen St, Masterton, at no charge.

This event is being run by the Te Kura-a-Rangi Trust (The Spot) and Masterton Safe and Healthy Community Council, with Support from Masterton District Council, King Street Live, Trust House and Ara Taiohi (Youth Week fund).
