Tick-tock clears Post Shop

A suspicious package making noises caused a Taupo branch of New Zealand Post to be evacuated for 45 minutes yesterday, but the offensive item turned out to be an alarm clock.

Police said Post Shop staff were alarmed by the package and businesses on either side of the store and above it were also cleared.

Police found the package's sender, who said the clock was a birthday present.
