Three people have been taken to hospital after a small fire at a New World supermarket in Rotorua.
Firefighters were called to the Hillcrest store around 9.30pm on Friday after reports of a chemical smell in the refrigerator room.
Fire and Emergency shift manager Megan Ruru said people were coughing
so an ambulance was called. Three people were subsequently taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Ruru said crews reported there being an acrid smell when they arrived.
Firefighters then found a small fire in the laundry and put it out.
