Thousands stopped in drink drive blitz

Nearly 10,000 vehicles were processed at drink drive checkpoints in West Auckland this weekend.

Waitakere Police conducted the operation with the assistance of Rodney and North Shore Police staff and the Traffic Alcohol group.

A total of 9830 vehicles processed at checkpoints strategically placed around the Waitakere suburbs.

Of these vehicles a total of 85 drivers were detected driving with excess breath alcohol. 15 of these drivers have elected to have blood tests taken, which will determine whether or not they too will face court proceedings.
