Police spent more than $26,000 on light planes and helicopters during their hunt for William Stewart but will not be seeking reparation.
Stewart faced 62 new charges when he appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday including 43 burglaries, drugs, weapon and violence offences.
Police say the total amount
of reparation being sought is likely to be between $300,000 and $400,000 but they are not seeking payback for aircraft hire.
Inspector Malcolm Johnston said $26,073 was spent on light planes and helicopters during Stewart's 106 days on the run. An Air Force Iroquois helicopter was also used, but at no cost to police.
Johnston said it was hard to pinpoint how many officers were involved and how many man hours were clocked up.
"An incident like a homicide has a project code attached to it and we can see everyone that has worked on it and all the costs associated. However (with Stewart) it was a case of getting a call about a sighting and having staff on patrol in the area dispatched to check it out."
Stewart, also known as Billy the Hunted One, told Judge Jacqui Moran he intended to defend all charges.
