Thieves rob Rugby World Cup tourists

An American couple's New Zealand honeymoon has been marred, after thieves took all their belongings, including their passports and wedding photos.

The newlyweds arrived in Auckland just two days ago for a two-week holiday, hoping to enjoy some of the Rugby World Cup party.

Meghan Stranton says they were sightseeing at Mt Eden and left their vehicle for a few minutes.

When they returned, they found an opportunist had made off with their bags.

She says luckily their hosts are wonderful so she knows there are good people in New Zealand - but it still puts a damper on the trip.

Meghan Stranton's urging anyone who might have any information to contact police.
