Masterton police are warning drivers to wary of thieves who are targeting parked cars in the town.
After a spate of incidents of people breaking into cars over the past week, Senior Sergeant Mike Sutton has warned Masterton residents to be wary of where they park their cars overnight.
He said there had been five incidents of break-ins - three in the Kuripuni area but also oneon Chapel St and one on Dixon St.
Stolen items included jewellery, work clothes and an acoustic guitar.
He said police were still not sure if the burglaries were linked. Burglars had entered the vehicles in several ways - by smashing windows, sliding windows open and in one case the car was unlocked.
Due to the short time frame of the burglaries, police have put extra patrols on in these areas at night.
Mr Sutton warned people to make sure they take valuables out of their cars and make sure they are secure at all times.
The victim who had his guitar stolen from his car on Chapel St came to the Times-Age in the hope that someone had witnessed the burglary or had seen the guitar since.
It is a dark brown Yamaha AP*500 acoustic guitar with an "ABS" black guitar case.
