Teenagers who moved a steel beam will not be prosecuted after it fell on a young girl in Tauranga and killed her during the weekend, police said today.
Ashlee Jade Davis died on Saturday night in Tauranga Hospital after she was hit by the steel beam at a storage yard.
Teenagers had
moved the beam so they could use it for skateboarding but could not be held criminally responsible for the girl's death said Senior Sergeant Dave Archibald today.
He said the teenagers were very upset at the girl's death and did not realise the consequences of interfering with the beam.
"They were known to the girl, they are all from the same neighbourhood."
The girl and a friend were swinging on the beam when it fell on her.
"It's an absolute tragedy," he said.
