The cause of the man's anger was alleged to be a Facebook page set up by Jamie and his brother called "Not being friends with the annoying drama queen from Makoura".
The father believed it was targeted at his daughter - a former school friend of Jamie's at Makoura College.
Jamie said he and the girl used to be friends but had fallen out .
However, Jamie said the page was not intended to be about the man's daughter.
"We just wanted to see who people would think it was about."
His father, Robert Allum, said "two wrongs don't make a right", but was shocked at the attack on his son.
"Why didn't he come and talk to me, adult to adult, rather than attack a minor?" he said.
Allum said the alleged assault had topped off a difficult year for the family, who moved to Masterton from Christchurch following the February earthquake.
The man has been bailed and is due to appear in Masterton District Court this week.
