Teenager shot dead in South Auckland

A 14-year-old was shot dead in south Auckland and armed police are understood to be looking for the assailant.

Police tonight would only confirm the teenager had been shot in Weymouth, a suburb of Manukau, near Manurewa.

Police were called to a cul-de-sac just before 9pm.

TV One cameraman Grahame Clark said a house in the cul-de-sac was surrounded by police and an ambulance was in the driveway.

"It appears as though it was quite a vicious attack," Clark told his channel. "The word on the street is that someone has been shot and a hammer has been used."

He said armed police were searching for the offender.
