Teenager in critical condition after Auckland street brawl

A 17-year-old is in critical condition in Auckland Hospital after a brawl reportedly involving up to 50 youths in the city early today.

Police were speaking to witnesses who were present at the incident, in Surrey Cres in the inner city suburb of Grey Lynn about 3.30am, said Detective Inspector Bernie Hollewand.

Police had been told up to 50 youths had been involved in the brawl.

Early this afternoon part of Surrey Cres was cordoned off while detectives conducted a scene examination.
