Teenager charged over attack on elderly Waikanae couple

A 17-year-old youth has been charged over an attack on an elderly Waikanae couple this week.

The couple were assaulted in their home and had their car stolen in the attack.

They remain in hospital in stable condition.

Police said today a 17-year-old youth with two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two charges of burglary.

He was also charged over another burglary nearby earlier in the evening.

The youth is due to appear in Porirua District Court this afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson said the incident had caused significant concern in the local community and police were pleased to have it resolved swiftly.
