Teenage boy missing in river north of Masterton

A search is underway for a teenage boy who went missing in the Ruamahanga River near Opaki, just north of Masterton, this afternoon.

The boy was swimming with other youths when he lost contact with the group.

A St John spokesman says it was alerted at 5:30pm.

"The river was pretty swift and deep [and] they lost one of the members,'' he said.

Fire and police are also assisting with the search.
