Teen struck by van named

A Waitara teenager who died after being struck by a van while walking on a north Taranaki highway late on Monday night has been named.

Clinton Eric Gornall, 17, was struck on the corner of State Highway 3 and Avenue St, just north of Urenui, about 11.20pm.

He died at Taranaki Base Hospital early yesterday morning.

Poor visibility was a likely factor in the collision, with heavy rain falling and the victim wearing dark clothes, Senior Sergeant Selwyn Wansbrough said.
