Police are once again urging constraint around alcohol and are reminding those holding a party to make sure they are well controlled and organised.
"Too often we see violence such as this stabbing resulting from too much alcohol - and invariably parties are involved. Youth in particular need to take more personal responsibility for their actions, control their drinking and realise that there are consequences for their behaviour.
"In this case, we have a young man who was seriously injured for no apparent reason. Police resources were fully stretched getting the party under control," Ms Bailey said.
Anyone with information about the stabbing should contact Ms Bailey at Hawke's Bay police on 06 8310700. Information can also be left anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
