Formula Ford racer Christina Orr was back driving at Pukekohe Raceway during the weekend for the first time since she was involved in a fatal accident at the track on September 7.
Before racing in a club day at the track, the Edgecumbe teenager walked to the sweeping right-hand bend after
the hairpin, where the crash that killed fellow 15-year-old racer Michael McHugh happened.
Her father, Will Orr, said his daughter told him she was still not on the racing line through that section for much of the day's action.
But her times were improving and the car, fresh from extensive repairs as a result of the accident, felt good to drive.
He said his daughter was now talking more positively about her future in the sport after a difficult period.
The next job for the team was to get the car repainted before the Formula Ford Championship started, in less than three weeks.
Three more test days are available at Pukekohe before then, but Mr Orr was not sure if Christina's car would need further testing before the championship start.
Last season, Christina Orr narrowly missed the Formula Ford rookie of the year title.
