A teenager saved his younger sibling by pushing his pram aside seconds before being struck by a car.
The teen suffered a serious head injury, multiple abrasions and contusions and was flown to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition.
Emergency crews were called to Kitchener Rd, in Waiuku, after 8am yesterday.
An Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter said the boy had been hit not far from the Kitchener Rd and Queen St intersection.
"He was crossing the road pushing his little brother in a pram.
"The pram was pushed out of the way and his little brother was okay. But the [older boy] hit the vehicle's windscreen and was thrown about 10m.''
Intensive care flight paramedic Marcel Driessen said the teen's younger brother, thought to be a toddler, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
He did not require hospital treatment.
