Hopes of a Masterton teen to get back on the straight and narrow might well have been dashed after he allegedly used a stolen car to drive to his family group conference.
He was one of three teens facing charges of unlawful taking of a vehicle from a Kuripuni Street address, which was later dumped at Memorial Park, Masterton Police senior sergeant Warwick Burr said.
A large quantity of stolen property had also been recovered.
- Elsewhere in the town, burglars looted a gun, cash and alcohol from a Masterton-Stronvar Road property on Thursday.
Mr Burr said a 22. rifle and ammunition was stolen from a cabinet and $60 cash and half a bottle of rum was also taken.
- A third person has been collared in relation to a high-speed chase through Masterton and Carterton on Tuesday morning.
Masterton Police senior sergeant Warwick Burr said an 18-year-old Masterton man arrested on Thursday faces charges of burglary, theft from a car and unlawful taking.
The man was however not a passenger in the stolen car driven by an allegedly drunk 18-year-old Pahiatua man who was trapped by a police dog when the pursuit, which reached speeds of 130kmh, ended.
- A Manawatu woman and her young child escaped serious injury in a crash on the Masterton-Castlepoint Road yesterday afternoon.
Masterton Police senior sergeant Warwick Burr said the vehicle driven by a 37-year-old Palmerston North woman rolled and came to rest on its side after leaving the road near Tauweru.
The driver escaped with minimal injuries, while the child was injured thanks to a child restraint.
