Teen dead in truck collision

A teenager fatally injured in a car crash early this morning has been named as Trent Michael O'Connell.

The 17-year-old died after the car he was a passenger in crossed the centre line and collided with a truck.

A police spokesman said the crash occurred on Omoto Valley Rd, about 4km from Greymouth, about 12.30am.

The other two occupants, one of them aged 25, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Greymouth Hospital.

All three were from Greymouth.

The spokesman said charges were "pending".

The truck driver was not injured.

The police serious crash unit was at the scene this morning.
