Teamplay tournament takes centre stage at Mahunga

The club held the Copthorne Solway Park resort 54 hole Teamplay tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
In the four ball round on Saturday, the best men's score were the two under par scores from the pairings of Lance and Graham Duckett and Graeme Dick and Paul Haxton.
They were followed on 71
by Brian Dick and Steve Hargood and Brian McHattie and Brendon Curtis, while another two pairings ? Ray Cocks and Mike Alexander and Kelvin Burt and Bob McDermott.
In the nett stakes, the best score were the 58 nett by the Dick / Haxton pairing and 59 by the Duckett's.
Then Rob McKelvey and Ken Luke were alone on 60 nett, but there were four pairings on 61 nett ? Ray Cocks and Mike Alexander, Shane Stewart and Mark Schultz, Wayne Evans and Syd Whittington and Martin Andrew and Maurice O'Reilly.
In the women's division, Anita Karaitiana and Rose Alexander posted a three under par total of 70 to have a handy margin over Jo Hargood and Di Hunter in second place.
The leader also had the best nett score of 59, with Ngaire graham and Adelaide Paku next best on 63 and Trish Gallon and Fiona Samuel on 65.
There was a hole in two competition on the Fourball rounds, with Jo Hargood, Anita Karaitiana and Brian McHattie scoring theirs on the par three holes.
There were two other two's scored ? by Laurence Butler with an eagle on the par four sixteenth hole and Kevin May (who was partnered by Laurence Butler) an albatross on the par five eleventh hole.
The Sunday morning ambrose round saw Anita Karaitiana and Rose Alexander post a score of 71, with three pairs ? Jo Hargood and Di Hunter, Trish Gallon and Fiona Samuel and Ngaire Graham and Adelaide Paku ? all finishing on 79.
In the men's competition, the ambrose saw four pair post seven under par scores of 65 ? Kelvin Burt and Bob McDermott, Brian Dick and Steve Hargood, Craig Cox and Laurie Vitale and Michael Yang and Yoshi Suganuma, while Brian McHattie and Brendon Curtis and Lance and Graham Duckett had 66's.
In the nett stakes, the best round was that of Michael Yang and Yoshi Suganuma with a 59 nett, followed by Craig Cox and Laurie Vitale, and Wayne Evans and Syd Whittington on 60 ? .
It was all down to the final round ? the foursomes. Adding to this most difficult of the three pairs rounds was the heat, that had concentrations starting to slip.
In the women's division, it was that pairing of Anita Karaitiana and Rose Alexander who had the best round of 82 to take out the gross prize.
In the nett competition, it was Trish Gallon and Fiona Samuel who led the way with a score of 198?, with Ngaire Graham and Adelaide Paku close behind.
In the men's foursomes, there were only four pair who finished with gross scores under 80 - Brian McHattie and Brendon Curtis on 76, Kelvin Burt and Bob McDermott on 77, Jeremy Harp and Darryl Coley on 78, and Lance and Graham Duckett on 79.
In the nett, Wayne Evans and Syd Whittington led the way with a 61? nett, from Colin McAuley and Mike Foote on 64, Jeremy Harp and Darryl Coley on 66 and Martin Andrew and Maurice O'Reilly on 67?.
The end result saw Brian McHattie and Brendon Curtis take out the gross with a three under par total of 213, with Kelvin Burt and Bob McDermott on 214, Lance and Graham Duckett on 215, Ray Cocks and Mike Alexander on 219 and Brian Dick and Steve Hargood on 220.
The nett side saw Wayne Evans and Syd Whittington repeat last years win with a total of 182?, which was five strokes ahead of Graeme Dick and Paul Haxton.
Jeremy Harp and Darryl Coley were in third place on 192, with Martin Andrew and Maurice O'Reilly and Willis and Haira paku following at ? stroke intervals.
On Monday, a smallish field played in a stableford round, but the scoring was still quite good. Leading the way was Evelyn Munn with a score of 45 points, with Matthew Biel in second place on 42 points, followed by Jim Munn on 41 and Bill Leahy on 39. There were two holes in two scored, with those being returned by Bill Leahy and Matthew Biel.
On Tuesday, the veteran's group played in a medal round. In the lower handicap women's group, Mei Hakaraia showed the way with her score of 54 nett, which was just one stroke ahead of Jean Bayly, while Evelyn Munn took third place on 57 nett. In the second women's group,
Judith O'Connor had the best score of 52 nett, to finish two strokes ahead of Cilva Richmond, while Noeline McGovern and Yvonne Allsworth shared third place on 57 nett.
The men's top group was taken out by Ron Hutcheson with a score of 55 nett, while Ray Loader was second on 59 nett, while both Bill Christiansen and Ian Gemmill finished on 60 nett.
The second group saw Jim Munn and John Harp share the honours on 52 nett, while Trevor Oliver took third place on 55 nett.
The women's nearest to the pins went to Jean Bayly on the third hole and Susan Christall on the sixth. The men's ones went to Ian Gemmill on the sixth hole and Syd Whittington on the seventh.
Next week's competition for the veteran's will be a stableford round.
This coming week-end will see both the men and women's Summer Cups finalised on Saturday, while on Sunday the club has its opening day for the season, with the competition being a mixed Fourball Bestball stableford.
The tee off will be at mid-day. For those players who do not have partners, the competition will be a stableford round.
