Teachers agree to arbitration, strikes off

Secondary teachers have voted in favour of independent arbitration as a possible means of settling their long-running pay dispute with the Government.

Post Primary Teachers Association (PPTA) president Jen McCutcheon said 76 per cent of PPTA members had voted in favour of arbitration.

The result means the rostering home of year nine (form 3) students planned for tomorrow, and a one day strike on Friday have been called off.

Mrs McCutcheon said the PPTA "now has a clear mandate from members to pursue an arbitrated solution to this dispute, so all high-level industrial action will be suspended until the process is complete and members have decided whether or not to accept the outcomes of such a process".
