A former Havelock North and Masterton teacher who admitted indecently assaulting female students in Hawke's Bay has been censured and stripped of his teaching registration.
Charles John Michael Harter, 63, was a music, mathematics and drama teacher, who taught from his home studio. He also taught music and drama atHavelock North Primary School until June.
He was a former teacher at Makoura College in Masterton.
The nine counts of indecent assault, against nine girls aged between 7 and 12, involved Harter inappropriately touching his students over and under their school uniforms at his home and at the school.
Harter had said he believed one of his victims was encouraging the behaviour and was happy with it.
He admitted the entirety of the offending to police and said he became sexually aroused when he touched his students.
A decision by the New Zealand Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal, made on September 17 and released yesterday, formally censured Harter and cancelled his teacher registration, after a complaint from the New Zealand Teachers Council.
Harter will be sentenced today, after being remanded in custody last month.
