The weapon, which does not appear to be high-powered, fires at the front section of a fenced property.
It’s not clear where the shots land but one appears to ricochet off something metal, possibly the mailbox.
As the vehicle drives off, an occupant says “don’t go that way”, then “ooh, that person saw us”.
The property appears to be on Atuaroa Ave.
Police were asked if they were aware of the video or had been able to verify it.
A spokesperson said this morning they were “aware of social media circulating”.
“Police continue to make inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident,” a spokesperson said.
Police asked that anyone who noticed anything in the area at the time, or had information that could assist inquiries, contact police and quote file number 251203/7926
Information could also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
South Waikato woman Donna Jacobsen was staying in Te Puke on Wednesday and told NZME she awoke to the sound of a gunshot.
She said it had been a “bloody hectic morning” waking in the early hours to a loud bang.
As she left, she saw police at both ends and in the middle of Atuaroa Ave, and there were three “yellow markings” on the footpath and about half a dozen on the road.
She didn’t know what the markings were for, but said she felt shaken up.
