Tax agent guilty of $1m fraud jailed

A tax agent who pleaded guilty to a web of fraud that netted more than $1 million over two years has been sentenced to prison for four years.

Roderick Scott McRae, 39, of Waiheke Island, admitted 18 charges covering 117 instances of fraud between August 1998 and last December. He traded under the name RSM Management Services.

Sentencing McRae in the Auckland District Court, Judge Barry Morris questioned how the Inland Revenue Department could allow someone with such a significant record of fraud and drug offences to work as a tax agent.
