Tauranga police launch inquiry after mystery attack

Police are investigating how a seriously injured 21-year-old man came to be dumped outside Tauranga Hospital overnight.

The man was admitted to the hospital's emergency department about 1am with a skull fracture, broken arm and facial lacerations, Tauranga CIB Detective Alan Kingsbury said.

He was later transferred to Waikato Hospital for surgery.

Mr Kingsbury said the investigation was centered around where and how the man was injured. Anyone with information about the incident should contact Tauranga police, he said.
