Tamihere hearing delayed for six months

A hearing on whether convicted killer David Tamihere breached his parole by flying over an historic Coromandel murder scene has been delayed for six months.

Tamihere was convicted in 1990 of the killings of Swedish backpackers Urban Hoglin and Heidi Paakonen and was released from jail in 2010.

He was flown over the murder scene by TVNZ's Sunday programme earlier this year in possible breach of his parole.

He has denied the charge and was scheduled to have a defended in Waitakere District Court today.

However, his lawyer Murray Gibson sought an adjournment because he had not received a transcript from the Department of Corrections of a Parole Board hearing.

"It's a fairly important issue, the reason why the condition was imposed," he told Judge Burns, who rescheduled the hearing to May 8 next year.

Tamihere was remanded at large.

Outside court, he told reporters he didn't mind the length of the adjournment.

"I've been waiting 20 years," he said.

He maintains his innocence for the murders.
