Talks held on Campbell Live's fate

MediaWorks board meets amid deluge of protest emails but TV3 owner says review of show is unresolved.

Speculation surrounding current affairs show Campbell Live continued to grow yesterday, as the board of TV3 owner MediaWorks met.

An online campaign announced on Tuesday that MediaWorks was about to make a decision. But a spokeswoman for the broadcaster said the review was still ongoing.

Member-led campaigning group ActionStation urged supporters to "flood" the inboxes of TV3 head of news Mark Jennings and MediaWorks chief executive Mark Weldon.

As of yesterday more than 14,000 emails had been sent but John Campbell made no mention of any developments during last night's show.

The MediaWorks board met yesterday afternoon where it is believed the future of Campbell Live and the 7pm slot was discussed.

Board members have been grappling with what to do with TV3's early-evening schedule, with ratings suffering after the channel lost its evening news lead-in, Australian soap Home and Away, to rival TV2 in 2013.

Chairman Rod McGeoch said last month the 6-8pm slot was being closely scrutinised and the Campbell Live review was part of that process.

The Herald approached Mr McGeoch and MediaWorks directors Julie Christie and Paul Lockey as they left a MediaWorks office on New North Rd in Eden Terrace yesterday afternoon.

Ms Christie referred questions about Campbell Live's future to Mr McGeoch, who told a reporter the Herald "would be the last to know".
