Suspicious house fire in Christchurch

A two-storey house was extensively damaged in a suspicious blaze in Christchurch early this morning.

The unoccupied house on Wainoni Rd in Avondale was well ablaze when firefighters were called shortly after 5am today, Fire Service southern communications spokesman Andrew Norris said.

Crews from three fire trucks brought the blaze under control but the house suffered extensive damage.

Mr Norris said the fire was being treated as suspicious.

Fire investigators and police would investigate the cause of the blaze this morning.
