'Suspicious' fire destroyed boat

A boat that was destroyed by fire in Queenstown last night has been deemed suspicious, fire services say.

Southern fire communications shift manager Rachel Butler said fire services received a call alerting them to the incident at 4.13am.

She said the Frankton fire service responded and found a boat was on fire at Lake Avenue in Queenstown.

"When they arrived it was well involved, so the boat was fully involved in fire."

She said the fire has since been extinguished.

The fire is deemed to be suspicious and fire investigators are currently at the scene, she said.
