Napier's Maraenui Bi-Lingual School was closed today as police and fire safety experts investigated a suspicious blaze.
The fire gutted the caretaker's shed which was broken-into, and caused minor damage to the school's hall before firefighters got the blaze under control.
There was no damage to classrooms but the school was closed
to protect evidence.
Senior Sergeant John Lovatt said the shed was broken into before the fire was reported by neighbours at 12.46am.
Fire Service senior station officer Mark McGill said firefighters arrived to find the shed ablaze and spreading into the hall roof.
About 20 firefighters fought the blaze.
