Suspicious fire at Turangi holiday home

A blaze that ripped through a holiday home in Turangi overnight is being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters were called to Puataata Rd property in the town about 2.30am, a Fire Service spokeswoman said.

"It's a three-bedroom house that looks as though it's used as a holiday house.

"It appears to have been empty at the time. It's being treated as suspicious."

The house was well ablaze when fire crews arrived.

The last fire truck left the scene at 6.30am and fire investigators are looking into what happened.
