A man shot at a Hamilton property last night is likely to undergo surgery later today as police try to establish whether there could be a link to a wanted offender's vehicle.
Police were called to a property on Churchill Ave in Maeroa shortly before 8pm after reports a manhad been assaulted.
Detective Sergeant Graham Pitkethley of the Waikato CIB said police and ambulance staff found a 34-year-old man had been shot.
The man was taken to Waikato Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.
"The man was admitted to a ward and is likely to undergo surgery later today," Mr Pitkethley said.
Police were now working to establish what had happened.
The investigation was looking into a vehicle linked to a man who was wanted on arrest warrants for offending in King Country last week.
The vehicle was one of a number at the address, but Mr Pitkethley said it was too soon to suggest the vehicle implicated anyone as the alleged offender.
Officers were also conducting a scene examination, which was likely to take most of today and possibly continue into tomorrow.
