Save A surfer at Muriwai Beach has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a broken leg while out on the water this evening.
Emergency services were called to the west coast beach shortly after 6.30pm.
Police northern communications shift commander Inspector Chris Money said they initially received reports that the man
was unconscious.
However, on arrival, they found that the surfer was conscious, but had suffered a broken leg.
The Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter airlifted him to hospital.
