A supermarket worker was left "extremely shaken'' after she was threatened by a knife-wielding man and told not to move in an aggravated robbery north of Wellington this morning (Friday).
The woman was confronted in the office of the Countdown supermarket in Paraparaumu about 5.30am, Detective Sergeant Ian Martin ofKapiti police said.
The robber left with money from the safe and left, "leaving the victim extremely shaken, but unharmed,'' he said.
Police were notified about 7.30am after another staff member found the victim in the office.
Mr Martin said the offender told the woman to remain in the office, and she was not tied up or bound.
The incident was very frightening for her, he said.
"She's very upset and distraught by what's happened this morning,'' he told APNZ.
Police were carrying out a thorough scene examination and trying to get a firm description of the offender.
Mr Martin said it wasn't known if other staff members were present at the time and police were still trying to determine the circumstances of the robbery.
Police were looking into what CCTV footage might be available.
Mr Martin said anyone in the vicinity of Countdown between 5am and 6am today who may have seen anyone or anything suspicious should contact police.
