An Auckland supermarket was evacuated this evening after it filled with smoke, forcing shoppers to leave the building.
The Countdown store on the corner of Williamson Ave and Ponsonby Rd was evacuated just after 6pm.
But a fire service spokesman told Fairfax there had been no fire and the smoke
was from a burglar deterrent mechanism that had triggered.
Nobody was injured in the incident and fire crews were only at the scene for 10 minutes, he said.
